Making Myspace - His Space!
myspace.com is in the news again these days. As controversial as it is, it has become the online hangout of well over 40 million users. Everyone from teens to marines are hanging out there. It has also become “the” place for bands to launch tour and album information.
I have a page myself - “mrstudentfire” I logged on so that I can check out what this culture is all about. I have seen many of you in the halls of myspace, some of you are even my friends. While there is much to debate on the merits of myspace, and I have a strong opinion about it, I’m not here to try to stop myspace. (And I will be the first to URGE you to get off of MySpace & Checkout SHOUTLIFE) I am however going to suggest that when you are online anywhere you sbould be salt and light.
Here are a few ideas to help you shine online:
- DECLARE YOUR FAITH as your fill out the 100 questions of the profile be sure that your faith in Jesus is listed as a part of who you are.
- Pictures speak a thousand words. When picking photos to represent you and for your online gallery - let them truly represent you as a child of God.
- What’s in a name? Have you ever wondered why the Bible seems to spend so much time on names, the seamanly endless lists in Numbers. While I often skip over the large genealogy sections they tell us a few important things. God know us on a very personal level and he knows our name. He thinks enough of the names of His children to have them recorded for all time. He talks about our names being written in the book of Life. Choose a screen name carefully. While you need to protect your identity online - you need not hide your values in a name like “hottiechick34″, “Hunkoflove17″ or “partytilidrop.”
- Be creative and fun. I am convinced that noone as more right to be happy and laugh than Christians. We live in the Truth, know to whom we belong, and where we are going. That’s exciting stuff. Celebrate life - be funny and cute.
- “Music is a fair and glorious Gift of God.” That is how the great reformer Martin Luther described music. There are great tunes available to put on your myspace page from awesome Christian bands. Why not use that opportunity to once again showcase what you believe.
Maybe it would be easiest if we had a simple guide, a filter so to speak which we could run our page, and posts through to see if they are fitting for a child of the King. You are in luck! Paul thought it would be a good Idea also and he left us one in the middle of Philippians. So let me leave you with some truly “inspired” thoughts….
